Accelerated Reader (AR)
Currently, Leclaire School has cut the Accelerated Reader program. I hope this program will be added in the future when funds become available.
What is Accelerated Reader? Accelerated Reader is an incentive based program that encourages students to read for pleasure.
Students earn points by reading A.R. books and taking reading comprehension tests. The number of points a student earns is determined by the difficulty of the book and the number of questions answered correctly.
After the student has completed a test, he or she gets immediate feedback in the form of reading points and a colorful graph showing them how many points they have earned. The program awards points based on the length and difficulty of the book, and also on the student’s comprehension.
The AR program provides the teacher with an accurate measurement of each student’s performance on reading comprehension.
Students can read a book at school or at home with parent help.
It’s as easy as 1-2-3

- Select a book. Students first choose a book in their reading level. There are thousands of titles on the Accelerated Reader Book list.
- Read the book. Students then read their books. Many students get so excited about the program, they read every chance they get! Be sure to read carefully.
- Take the test. Many students find this to be one of the most enjoyable parts of the program. They take a computerized test featuring 5, 10, or 20 multiple choice comprehension questions. After the student completes the test, the program indicates how many questions he or she answered correctly. It also allows the students to view the questions he or she missed. Students are awarded points based on how many questions they answered correctly, as well as the assigned point value of the book.
